Placement match 5/6: Denmark beats Spain 34:27

Despite aggressive man-marking by Spain, Denmark managed to lead plus two –for example due to the penalty-goal of Eggert Jensen, number 11 (8:6) after a two minute suspension for Spains number 24, Morros de Argila. They even led by plus three due to a () of the wing by Eggert Jensen, plus four by Laen (13:9), plus five by Eggert Jensen (top scorer of the first half) and even plus six due to Knudsen in minute 26. Hansen (Denmark’s number 24) managed to score the 18:12 while Denmark had one man less some seconds before the end of the first half but Spain got another chance to reduce the () of Denmark: Spain’s number 18, Romero got a penalty after the time has run down and scored to end the first half 18:13.
In the second half Spain managed to reduce the score-distance a little bit (they caught up to minus four -24:20) but they obviously struggled and could not equalize. Laen scores in the last minute of the second half to 34:27.
Peter Bredsdorff-Larsen (assistant coach of Denmark): „In the end we finished this tournament nicely, the game today only tells the level of the team at this time. We are going home with an OK-feeling but we’ll come back and we’ll play better in Sweden.“
Bo Spellerberg (number 13, Denmark): “Yesterday was a tough day, because we knew that we had to go home, but it doesn’t matter how important the game is, we always have to be ready. We wanted to play a good last game.”
Valero Rivera (coach of Spain): “My resume of the tournament would be, that we worked good, we played good and we have been very near to the finals. I want to send my best wishes to Denmark, but I have to say, that it was not a nice match.”
Jose Javier Hombrados (number 1, Spain, goalkeeper): “I think that Spain did a very good job, we did everything to qualify but we didn’t have good luck. Morally today was a very bad day, but now we have to think about the future and I think we are on a good way.”
