Innsbruck: Czech Republic vs. Germany 26:26

credit: Schaad

Although Germany and the Czech Republic were playing out a meaningless match, both teams took it seriously. The Czech Republic were in lead 3:0 after seven minutes, before the Germans woke up and scored four consecutive goals. Then Germany increased the lead, the Czechs had some problems with the strong German defence against top scorer Filip Jicha. Germany was in front after 30 Minutes and even took the score to 20:17 (42nd). Three goals in a row brought the Czech  Republic back into the close match. Now the Germans couldn’t stop Jicha any more, but Christoph Theuerkauf’s goal was the last one. In the end the Czechs celebrated the 26:26 draw because it secured their fourth place in this group.

Heiner Brand (Coach GER): The first half was quite OK, but I am not content with the second half. This can be led back to the lack of power. If I look onto the whole match this has been a fair draw.

Martin Liptak (Coach CZE): I am content with the draw, because we had no power any more. A big compliment to my team for the great performance during the whole tournament. Congratulation to the Germans for their fair appearance.

Uwe Gensheimer (GER): We did not start very well in this tournament and we always had to fight very hard in each match. Today  it was important for us to show a good match. This draw is a fairly conciliatory end of this tournament.

Jan Filip (CZE): This was an important game against Germany. I am glad that we have succeeded with a draw. We can be very content with our performance during this tournament.
