Wiener Neustadt: Spain beats Hungary 34:25.

A full house in Wiener Neustadt saw Spain playing with Hungry. Sadly for the many Hungarian fans, their team never stood a chance and lost 34:25. The match started great for the Spanish team. They were leading 3:9 after fifteen minutes. Alberto Entrerrios alone scored five of them, and when the bell rang after 30 minutes Spain was leading comfortably 9:17. Spain continued where they ended the first half, keeping Hungary on a safe distance during the whole second half. It never got really exciting and close, but the audience, and the Hungarian team, got a lesson in superb handball. Hungary didn’t succeed to play the level they showed yesterday when they played even with France, but for both teams the most important match is yet to come. Spain meet France for the highlight game of the week here in Arena Nova and Hungary plays the Czech Republic to fight for the last spot in the main round in Innsbruck.
Valero Rivera coach Spain: “I am very satisfied with the game and our performance. We played great defence, and that was our strong side today. We played very accurate with few mistakes and I hope we will continue this way.“
Jose Javier Hombrados goalkeeper Spain: “I am also very happy with the match. We played great defence; we were united and showed strong mental strength.
Istvan Csoknyai coach Hungary: “This game didn’t go the way we planed. We had a week start. Spain played aggressive defence and we didn’t know how to play against it. Second half was a bit better for us, but we never had a chance and it was a well deserved victory for Spain.”
Nikola Eklemovic player Hungary: “We are off course disappointed because we couldn’t play the game we wanted. But the important thing now is to focus on the next key game against the Czech Republic on Friday.”
